21st Annual Golf Tournament Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Cameron

The Cameron Veterans Home Assistance League has made the decision to reschedule our annual golf tournament from June 13 to August 29, 2020. This is for both the safety of our players as well as to provide a more energetic environment for the event. We completely understand the tremendous challenge this pandemic has placed on families and businesses; with that thought we certainly hope you can join us for this great benefit but understand and appreciate your personal situation.

We do want to note that the Assistance League has been grateful for your support in the past and has recently purchased another new wheelchair accessible van for our Veteran residents. This will help with transportation to doctor visits and the many outings we sponsor. During the past several weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Veterans Home has been under many restrictions; this means no visitors, including families and volunteers, can enter the facility outside of vital medical services. During these challenging times, the Assistance League has donated the necessary funds to provide additional activities for the Veterans in our Home. While practicing social distancing, here are some of the activities the Activities department has been able to offer: our Voices for Vets sing 3 times a week on each community and in the Dining Hall; patio time with music, happy hour, kite flying and enjoying the sun; music plays every hour on the hour for our Staff to dance to in hopes to keep morale up for both Veterans and Staff; small group activities in each community such as bingo and poker; devotions with music in the chapel twice a week; watching sports and movies on the big screens in the chapel with popcorn and other goodies; Easter Cantata on Good Friday; Easter worship with Lloyd and even a visit from the Easter Bunny!

Staff have been setting up skype calls for our Veterans with family and friends. Some Veterans are even meeting with loved ones through the windows! Our operation ‘Make a Vet Smile’ video is up on our MVH – Cameron Facebook page. This video was part of a project to give hope to the other Veterans at Homes across Missouri as well as to send an uplifting message to families, friends and the community. People across the community have sent in over 80 letters of appreciation and encouragement to our Home! We are truly in this together and appreciate all of the help we have received throughout this experience.
